Walden Preceptor Matching in Ohio

The American Association of Nurse Practitioners places Ohio in the reduced-practice category. In plain terms, an advanced practice registered nurse designated as a certified nurse practitioner (CNP) cannot practice fully independently. State law requires a regulated collaborative relationship with a physician for at least one element of practice, which shapes where and how you will train.

In Ohio that relationship takes the form of a standard care arrangement. Under Ohio Revised Code section 4723.431, a CNP may practice only in accordance with a standard care arrangement entered into with each physician or podiatrist with whom the nurse collaborates. The arrangement spells out the services the CNP provides, the scope of prescriptive practice, and how the parties resolve disagreements about care. Prescriptive authority runs through a separate Certificate to Prescribe, which begins with a supervised externship (CTP-E) before a full Certificate to Prescribe (CTP) is issued.

For NP tracks, direct patient care hours are earned in person. Telehealth can be part of a modern practice and may count when it involves real patient contact under your preceptor's supervision, but you should not expect to complete an Ohio practicum entirely from a screen.
