Walden Preceptor is an independent team of nurses, placement coordinators, and academic coaches. We do one thing well: help Walden University nursing students secure a qualified preceptor and clinical site, then carry them through Meditrek, CastleBranch, and every hour to the finish.
We started because too many capable students stall out, not on the coursework, but on the search for a preceptor who will say yes. Calling clinics, chasing affiliation agreements, and racing the registration deadline is a second job. We took that job so you can stay focused on becoming the clinician you came here to be. Independent, and clear about it
We are a private service that works on behalf of students. Walden, Meditrek, and CastleBranch are the property of their respective owners. We help you meet their requirements; we do not speak for them.
How a case actually runs, start to finish
"We handle it" is easy to say. Here is what the desk actually does between your first call and your last clinical hour.
- Intake. A coordinator maps your full course sequence, not just the next class: which quarters need a site, what setting each course requires, and how your state's rules shape the search.
- Search. We work our preceptor network and run direct outreach in your area and specialty. Anyone who cannot meet the course objectives or commit to your dates is screened out before you ever hear a name.
- Confirmation. You speak with the proposed preceptor. When the fit is right we confirm dates, secure the site's approval, and prepare the affiliation agreement for Walden and the site to execute.
- Nomination. We walk you through entering the preceptor in Meditrek ahead of Walden's practicum deadlines, which close well before the quarter starts. Walden reviews and approves every nomination; no placement is final until it does.
- Your hours. Your coordinator stays reachable across the quarter, about 11 weeks: logging questions, site hiccups, and the handoff into your next course.
What we refuse to do
A placement desk earns trust by what it turns down. These are our hard lines, and they do not bend for urgency or for money.
- We never arrange sign-offs without a real preceptor relationship. Every hour on your log is an hour you attended, supervised by the person who signs it.
- We never work around Walden's approval process. The university reviews every preceptor and site; our job is to make that approval easy to grant, not to dodge it.
- We never promise what is not ours to promise. Walden's decision belongs to Walden. We place strong candidates and prepare clean paperwork; we do not guarantee a university outcome.
- We never push a mismatch to close a case. If the best site we can find does not fit your course, you hear it plainly, with options, before any fee exists.

My quarter starts soon. Is it too late?
Maybe not, but the real deadline is not the first day of class. Walden's practicum deadlines for nominating a preceptor close well before the quarter opens. Bring your exact term dates to the consult and we will tell you honestly whether this start is reachable or whether aiming at the next one protects you better.
Can one site cover several of my courses?
Sometimes, and it cuts both ways. One site means one affiliation agreement, one onboarding, and a preceptor who already knows you. Different sites mean broader case exposure and sometimes a faster start when one clinic's calendar fills. Your course requirements cast the deciding vote; each class must match what the site can actually provide.
What if my preceptor drops mid-rotation?
