Because every hour you claim is attached to a patient log, build the habit of recording the same day you work. Reconstructing a week of encounters from memory is where students lose hours, and a preceptor cannot sign what was never logged.

How you log and who signs

Walden uses Meditrek (edu.meditrek.com/waldenu/student) for both your time logs and your patient logs. You enter the data; your approved preceptor reviews and signs your hours and completes a midterm and a final evaluation inside Meditrek. Those evaluations are not optional. If a preceptor does not complete them, the course can result in a failing grade, so confirm early that your preceptor received their Meditrek access credentials.

Pacing the hours without burning out

One hundred sixty hours over an eleven-week term sounds heavy until you spread it. At the 12-hour daily ceiling you could finish in about fourteen clinic days, but most students do better with steady shorter sessions that fit alongside the didactic side of the course. A common rhythm is two clinic days a week of six to eight hours each, which lands you near 160 with margin before Week 10. The eight-week minimum spread exists for the same reason: clinical reasoning grows over weeks of varied patients, not in a few marathon days.

The Kansas exception

If you plan to license as an APRN in Kansas and you are a new student admitted on or after March 1, 2025, your total rises to 750 practicum hours rather than 640. That works out to a higher per-course requirement, and certain Fast Track post-master's certificate students carry a larger per-course load as well. If Kansas licensure is your goal, confirm your exact hour count with the Office of Field Experience before you map your terms, because the difference changes how you pace each course.

If you fall behind on hours

Hour problems are common and fixable if you flag them early.
